Facilities management vs Facilities maintenance

Facilities management and maintenance extend the concept of fixing and include planned predictive and preventive maintenance. But, what is the difference between the two?

We can easily tell them apart by the scope each of them takes, for instance, when we talk about Facilities Management, we refer to the people responsible for keeping the facility operational. A facility manager looks after the workers and equipment of the building as a whole, they also are the decision makers of the whole operation.

Facilities maintenance, on the other hand, takes care of the day-to-day aspects of the operation, things such as cleaning, giving maintenance to the machines, etc.

However, both collaborate for the creation and improvement of Predictive Maintenance, which seeks early degrading detection to repair or correct the equipment or components in advance.

This is why a good Facilities Management System should allow the facilities manager to take a much more proactive and predictive approach having a clear picture of what is happening across the spaces at any time by warning or anticipating the minimal complications
